I once made the comment that most of the entertainment today is in very poor shape. The industries are trying to relive past glories, especially music and movies. Most of the money being made in the music industry is reissues, HDCD releases of distinguished titles, delux reissues, legacy reissues, offical releases of bootlegs, greatest hits, and any and all repackaging of classic albums. And they all spend well known, classic, spacious name artists, because they know people will take it. Because the majority of modern CDs, and unique artists aren’t of any accurate quality, they have to rely on the dilapidated stuff to perform money. The same can be said of the movies. It’s all sequels, prequels, remakes, and remodels.

Accordingly, I was not thrilled when I heard a unusual version of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” was coming out. When I learned it was a Tim Burton/Danny Elfman/Johnny Depp production, I was less skeptical. When I saw a trailer, I was eager. When I heard Danny Elfman was writing/composing the music AND doing the vocals, I was exasperated. The collaboration is big, almost to the point of excusing all their pretensiousness and self-absorbtion… enough quibbling. On to the movie!

It holds many of Tim Burton’s staples; it is dim, stark, eerie, and filled with the regular unnamable props, but he has allowed joy into the equation. The movie is noteworthy better for it. There is rich color, specifically in the factory, to match the rich imagery and amusing comparisons of Willy Wonka. Depp is cast perfectly in this role, which is not really apparent unless you ogle the movie. He is amusing, quirky, confused, and innocent; grand different than the quick-witted, strong character played by Gene Wilder in the recent. The children who come by the golden tickets and their parents do a immense job too. Perhaps my celebrated allotment is the wild card, Danny Elfman. If you don’t know WHO Elfman is, you’re determined to have heard his music whether in any number of cult classic 80’s films (Pee Wee’s Titanic Adventure, Beetlejuice, Batman 1 & 2), his TV themes (The Simpsons), his musical-esque movies featuring his vocals (Nightmare Before Christmas– an absolute classic soundtrack), or his 15-plus years of work as the vocalist/writer/guitarist for 80’s heavyweight Oingo Boingo. “Charlie” is the 11th time Tim Burton has old Elfman as his composer, and this is arguably their greatest work together (though I consume “Nightmare Before Christmas”) .

The movie itself is quite gripping, bright into parts of the Willy Wonka myth the orignal movie didn’t, relying more on the Ron Dahl book. Note: even the lyrics to the four Oompa-Loompa songs are the lyrics from the current. We learn that Willy became a chocolateer to spite his father and is forever alarmed by this falling out. An eventual redemtion of their relationship serves as a very definite pro-family element. Best of all, it’s spruce. Nothing negative, offensive, or disturbing is presented, meaning a green light for families and kids; a Grand plus. The dilemma of lacking special features is corrected here, but you can set aside a few dollars if you don’t mind a slimmer package. A big, colossal, fun movie.

Overall: 9 out of 10.

First off, yes, I am a fan of Tim Burton. I even maintain every one of his movies on DVD (though one or two of them I could live without) . But that’s not the point. The fact is, I respect his vision as an artist; and his ability to manufacture such surrealistic worlds that are both unusual and amazing are unbiased enough why I idolize him.

Okay, now, some of you may wonder, if this is a bid remake of the 1971 film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory that starred Gene Wilder. Actually, no, even though it’s the same account thought. The only contrast is that this film pays more homage to the book (Considerable more homage) and is (of course) Extraordinary to see at. The storyline now, is simple enough (because I’m under the impression that a lot of people have seen the current film) : Charlie Bucket (Freddie Highmore) is a boy from an impoverished family living under the shadow of a giant chocolate factory, who eventually wins a candy bar contest and is given a tour, along with four other children, of the extraordinary factory hasten by the eccentric Willy Wonka and his staff of Oompa-Loompas.

Performance wise, this movie belongs to Johnny Depp and Freddie Highmore, who are able to recreate their chemistry from Finding Neverland. However, quote: “Depp’s Wonka is far less cuddly than that of Gene Wilder, playing it more like a demented Mr. Rogers with more than a bit of a sadistic paddle. The scheme that he watches the kids meet their fates with giddy glee is quite disturbing, but it’s hard not to indulge in this quirky hermit’s complete lack of social skills.”-Edward Douglas, [...] (sorry, but the guy explianed it perfectly) Also, I’d like to positive this up out of my system before it does any more afflict, but it seems A LOT of ….people are comparing Depp’s Wonka w/ a definite pop star so remarkable that it really impartial sickens me. This assessment can be contradicted however. First reason (and this came from no other than Depp himself) : In an interview, Johnny said he had NO Plot whatsoever to bad his character off of Micheal Jackson. Second reason: Willy Wonka is a recluse, so he’s supposed to be uncommon, queer, crazy, whatever. I mean, the guy shunned himself from society for 15 years so he’s going to be pale, out of style/trend, and a bit leisurely. Also, throughout the movie, we’re shown flashbacks of Wonka’s past that are passe to define his weirdness. There, demolish of legend. Freddie Highmore’s Charlie is more dismal than the novel one, so noteworthy that you’ll want to hug him b/c he’s so optimistic depsite living such an impoverished lifestyle. Another performance nod goes to Deep Roy, who plays all the Oompa-Loompas w/ such panache. Everyone else is profitable in their performances.

Now, aesthetically, this film is amazing; in fact, this is Burton’s most visually striking film to date. He yet again creates such surreal and imaginative landscapes that it’s objective trusty peek candy to inspect at; the factory rooms being the prime example. Some of the wacky machinery weak to manufacture candy is impartial as impressive and actually looks like it could work. Yet, as w/ the novel film, this film creates an atmosphere that could unnerve sensitive folks. The boat lag down the chocolate tunnel is not the acid scramble that was the modern, but rather like an intense roller coaster meander. Also, for those who have seen the current, the four kids who tumble to their weaknesses (loosely speaking: gluttony, pride, avarice(that’s greed) and sloth) and punished for not heeding warnings are a bit more hazardous (thanks to the evolution of filmmaking) and peruse fatal, but are not.

Also, another treat in this film is to hear composer Danny Elfman (who has still resplendent remarkable all of Tim Burton’s films to date assign for Ed Wood, which was scored by Howard Shore) reveal again. He sings all the Oompa-Loompa songs provided by the lyrics written in the book with such style that you can’t wait on but tap your feet. For the picture, he also sung in Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Well, I fill I covered over everything. Overall, proper faithful adaptation that surpasses the novel in practically every device (sorry, but…my conception) . Also, the ending is different, both from the book and the unique film; but detached favorable. This is also Burton’s best film next to Ed Wood and redeems him from his Planet of the Apes remake (what was he thinking w/ that? ) . Anyways, tall film: impartial as wacky and bent as you might inquire of but nonetheless fabulous to observe at and as magical as the modern.

Action, humor, drama - the Hermie the Current Caterpillar fable has these and more, all wrapped up like a coccoon. Parents should eye the voices of legendary comedians Tim Conway and Don Knotts. Kids will delight in the entire movie regardless. I recommend you read the book first. Your family will like the movie even more because it not only elaborates on the record line, but includes two songs: “Unprejudiced Like You” and “God Is Not Finished With You Yet.” When my girls, ages 4 and 2, saw one of their well-liked books brought to life, they jumped for joy. The 3D animation is lifelike and touchable (mediate Monsters, Inc.) . Hermie’s dream sequences are hilarious! Hermie convinces his best friend Wormie to follow his harebrained schemes to become strong like the ant or spotted like the ladybug. “What could go tainted? ” Hermie asks Wormie, objective before he’s bombarded with blueberries. The video begins and ends with a short cameo of the author Max Lucado himself. Lucado’s biblical message hits home without being heavy handed. Real runtime is about 35 minutes.

This is such a enormous myth. My kids treasure to witness it over and over. It has a astronomical message and a lot of fun. I would highly recommend it.

William Keighley’s Each Dawn I Die status the tone for the prison genre. Oz it is not, but for 1939, Each Dawn I Die presents viewer insights to the jargon, code of ethics, and behavior of hardened convicts. John Wray as Pete the prison guard barks through his lines like a rattled pit bull. George Raft, who seemed to be forever dressed in prison garb, plays Stacey a “lifer” who is sprung to serve newsreporter Ross (James Cagney) who has been framed for manslaughter. Cagney shows glimpses of his emotional explosiveness as Ross breaks down befoe a parole board. Raft is in prime do cooly delivering lines that would manufacture Edward G. Robinson proud. The prison demolish scenes are shot and edited realistically and provide reference points for future prison films such as Brute Force and Caged. Detached other scenes are highly amazing and mirorred in Hollywood fare. ( Stacey giving himself up in front of the penitentiary, and the warden’s mushy sentimentality to name unprejudiced two) . These shortcomings restricted Each Dawn I Die from attaining a higher echelon among crime films. Aloof the sixty-one year mature film retains its credibility among the genre and is worth owning.

The title refers to what many prison inmates feel when they awaken in the morning: it’s a timeless - albeit poetic - metaphor. As a pugnacious reporter, Cagney unearths evidence that will establish some hight-level politicians in jail. Before he can come by his material into print, he is abducted, knocked unconscious and establish into a car, booze poured over him & the vehicle sent careening down the street where it runs over a man and kills him. The brutal frame-up works: Cagney is convicted of manslaughter and is sent to prison, where he befriends collected crook George Raft (as “Hood” Stacey), a crime boss. On the remark to the Sizable House, Raft smiles and jokingly asks Cagney to write a section about him - cause he likes his name in the paper…Once inside Rocky Point, Cagney pleads again and again for parole, which is repeatedly denied him…Cagney and Raft had known each other in vaudeville attend in the gradual twenties. Raft, a real-life tough guy had various connections with hoodlums and bootleggers: Owney Infuriate & Joe Adonis to name a couple. Raft even picked up their bear particular mannerisms and he had a very short fuse in right life. But Raft got along well with Cagney: advantageously making this film a blockbuster hit in its day: owing to a tight script and the electric acting of the leads, this one is far above average in the category of crime films.

I was disappointed by this documentary. Rather than spending the 45 minutes going into the lawful “Secrets of the Bible” this was actually a historical timeline of the archaeologists who research the Bible. Now it’s right that some of these people are bewitching, however the life and times of the archeologists is hardly what I would judge “The Bible’s Greatest Secrets”. The documentary itself was a puny over the top, trying to force mystery and suspense when there was really very tiny said. I would hope that there are better documentaries out there on this topic. This is not one I would recommend unless your interest is in the bios of the archeologists.

Deceiving recall. Not at all what I understanding it would be. Different from what’s written in summary. I was very disappointed. I unbiased threw it away.

Sometimes I marvel that so many people and movie critics examine every film to be Oscar material! Lots of action, quick paced, frigid special effects–Doom is a solid, racy movie. The Rock and Karl Urban carried the epic forward (and provided some nice perceive candy to boot) .

Are you going to catch deep philosophical meaning in it? Only if you’re drunk. Can you sit succor and let go for a couple of hours? Definitely. Bottom line is if you’re a fan of action movies, add this movie to the roster.

This one detached boggles me!

I read the finicky reviews and was not expecting anything decent but it wasn’t so unpleasant!

Yeah at times I was thinking “why did these people film this? Did they need money? ” because it is based on a game and has its have world, it does not follow what we on Earth would call a legend taken from life.

The special effects were rough at times and made me mediate that whoever did Pac Man was detached doing his work on this movie, but since it’s based on a game I took it with a grain of salt. The creatures were heavenly wild and I like “alien waddle on starship” whether under water, in outer dwelling or on a Moon type of a movie.

I liked how definite characters, without spoiling anything, changed sides and there were a few nice status twists. Karl Urban and surprisingly the dude known as The Rock were ravishing gracious in this one.

Fun movie to stare, but it’s not deep soulful or Oscar nominee material.

Pretty remarkable study candy, but overall better than I expected.

The Mack (1973), probably one of the most referenced movies in the hip hop culture, on appearance has all the qualities of a blaxploitation film, but a closer and thoughtful peruse might give you a different view. Directed by documentarian Michael Campus and starring Max Julien, Richard Pryor, and Carol Race, The Mack presents a portrait taken in time of a particular lifestyle not many ever pick up to discover.

The movie opens with two men, Goldie (Julien) and Slim (Pryor), keen in a gunfight in a junkyard. Seemingly out numbered, Goldie tells Slim to retract off (wouldn’t have been my choice as Slim is sporting what appears to be a M16 while Goldie’s sporting a handgun) . Slim manages to split, while Goldie gets picked up by the police, and subsequently sentenced to five years in a penitentiary. Serving some particular hard time, Goldie gets released, and tries to establish the pieces befriend together. He visits his brother, Olinga, played by Roger E. Mosley (Magnum P.I.), who is keen in trying to educate and empower the community, in a character fashion after Gloomy Panther leader Huey Long. Basically. Goldie is presented with two options; follow his brother in focusing on making a disagreement through psuedo-political means, or follow the path of the Mack, becoming a flesh peddler, and gaining empowerment through the acquisition of money. Goldie chooses the latter, hooking attend up with Slim and taking advice from an older blind man, sort of a Obi Wan Kenobi of the underworld, who shares his knowledge with Goldie on how to deal with women in the Mackin’ game, the importance of controlling their minds rather than fair their bodies. Goldie soon recruits some ladies of the night, and has to deal with foul police detectives, rival players, and various other underworld characters during his meteoric rise (he gets chosen as The Mack of the Year at an annual players ball) . As Goldie’s popularity, or notoriety, increases, so does the pressures, both internal and external, along with the violence, and begins carrying over into his family, and forces Goldie to determine where it’s at…

The Mack certainly does seem to glorify these men who deal in the flesh trade, with their extravagant lifestyles, flashy cars, and colossal wads of cash, but the glamour is lickety-split overshadowed by the harsh realities presented as the stories progresses, and honest how mighty one has to give up to be a success in that particular business. There are a lot of laughs to be had here, maybe not intentional, but the film is fair dated. Between the dialog, stereotypes, and trash-talking criminals, there was an underlying sadness for me in the realness of the disgusting attitudes depicted towards the women, objectified to the point where they weren’t even people anymore, merely tools of the trade, a means to obtaining material possessions through the sale of their bodies, and also how many sight up to these men, idolizing them, thus perpetuating their activities. Shot on region in Oakland, and featuring trusty individuals within the community, the film forgoes the slickness of a Hollywood budget, but gains a exact grittiness one wouldn’t be able to reproduce on a soundstage. The dialog, a lot of it improvised, and some indistinguishable, only adds to the realistic quality of the film, but also isolates it, in my concept, within the time period in which it was made. The funniest share had to be when Goldie had his women at a planetarium, using the effects of the simulated stars and a microphone to subliminally enforce his will through their repetition of his player mantras. I did like how the film ended, nicely book ending the beginning, bringing the main character beefy circle.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Mack! Click Here

Presented here is a very well-behaved looking wide mask version of the film, which runs approximately 110 minutes. Special features include an novel theatrical trailer, a commentary track featuring star Max Julien, producer Harvey Bernard, director Michael Campus, and actors Richard Anthony Williams, Annazette Accelerate, Don Gordon, and George Murdok, along with an good 38 microscopic featurette titled Mackin’ Ain’t Easy, which looks befriend on the making of the film, detailing all the problems and issues that arose, especially those filming on residence within Oakland in the early 70’s. To some extent, I found this almost more toothsome than the movie.

Cookieman108

The Mack is probably my popular blaxploitation film ever. It gives detailed insight into life as the godfather of pimps on the hard streets of Oakland in the 70’s. Goldie gets released from prison and immediately begins working his master thought of becoming the biggest pimp-style baller in the oaktown. But his brother is one of the leading activist against exploiting dismal people to produce money. The sub-plot helps magnify the reality of being a successful shaded man in a white world. If you like “Superfly”, “Sunless Caesar”, or “Shaft” then you’ll appreciate The Mack.

Truly a bit of laughable SF genius! It poked fun at every fresh SF blockbuster out there at the time…the pick -off on Star Wars with Hans Conried as the stutter of “The Source” is worth the brand of the series by itself as it is one of the best of the early parodies of the movies.

The series is hokey, it *knows* it’s hokey and revels in it. Like the equally little-known “Wizards and Warriors”, it mercilessly impales and lampoons an entire genre with a few well-written quips.

If you indulge in obedient parody, prefer this baby. We need to befriend the studios to both bring these gems out of the vaults and to accomplish more.

“It” hit the television world on February 24, 1978 like a galaxy-class starship slamming into a Quasi-norm. Quark, NBC’s fabulous science-fiction spoof from the mind of Buck Henry, was released about the same time as Star Wars, Finish Encounters of the Third Kind, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century and Battlestar Galactica were making their impact on the science fiction community. The short-lived series featured Richard Benjamin as Adam Quark along with his crazy crew aboard a spacefaring garbage scow. Well ahead of it’s time, the series has become a cult classic with precious few unique copies available — until now! Buck Henry’s oddball creation will easily bring you attend (and forth) in time. As others have mentioned, this is perhaps the only pro-war film ever made about our involvement in Vietnam, either at the time of the war or since.

Pretty remarkable these days, nobody espouses a pro-war stance on the Vietnam conflict. It was not a “grand” war, after all, and the war will always be section and parcel with the agony of America’s social chaos in the behind 60’s and early 70’s. However, at the time, the social battle lines were well defined between the peaceniks and the hawks; those against the war, and those all in favor of it. Without the thirty-plus years of hindsight to assist them keep this conflict in perspective, the hawks were elegant gung-ho. Likewise, the the peaceniks, who view that if we objective “like each other” everything would be alright, looks handsome naive and childish. If only the world were so simple.

Like the war, this film engenders strong feelings in those who glimpse it. The DUKE was a known hawk, and you can eye it shine through in every line, and in every scene. Like most hawks at the time, I suspect that The DUKE simply opinion Vietnam was unprejudiced like any other war (most likely, World War II), and it was incomprehensible to them that anyone would be against it. The film, in turn, reflects the hawk viewpoint.

In other words, you could substitute the Vietnamese with the Japanese in WWII, and the film would be more or less the same (reliable, upstanding Americans vs. expansive awful empire) . The hold of the enemy general is pure WWII melodrama. The character of Petersen, the “scrounger”, is also a stock character from a WWII movie. The staging of the action, the commando raid, blowing up a bridge, etc., all wail WWII.

DUKE co-directs, and despite being filmed in Georgia (which looks nothing like Southeast Asia!), the results are really lovely beneficial. The raid to rob the enemy general is droll, but tense and lively nevertheless. The characterizations are solid. The film flows nicely, and isn’t too long or too short. The cinematography is workable, and at times, even impressive. There’s plenty of action, too!

When you observe DUKE react to the child running from helicopter to helicopter looking for Petersen, you cannot benefit but have respect for this film. Certainly one of the best endings in American film history follows. Politics and anti-war sentiment of today’s PC society aside, this is a colossal war film that honors the best of the best; the Green Berets.

Let me occupy a moment and say a word or two about David Janssen’s role as George Beckworth, the reporter for a left-wing and anti-war newspaper. The character is a minute too definite, and at first, a miniature too strong on the anti-war sentiment. His conversion was a shrimp too predictable, but the handling of his conversion to pro-war is very well-handled. Ultimately, I believe it was a believable transformation, and this is due entirely to Janssen’s talent. In the hands of another, less skilled actor, the Beckworth character could have been a spacious sore point, but Janssen makes Beckworth a still force, a wall of anti-war sentiment needing to be erroded away by the reality of the space he finds himself in. In many ways, I consider Janssen’s underplayed near for Beckworth makes him seem more exact, and ultimately sells the character. It helps sell the movie too, despite our fresh perspective on the war.

Appearing in supporting roles are Jack Soo (Reduce Yemana on “Barney Miller”), George Takei (Sulu on “Star Amble”), and Bruce Cabot. Cabot had starred in a mammoth many films, and “The Green Beret” is one of his last. He was a well-liked DUKE co-star, appearing with DUKE in “Hellfighters”, “Enormous Jake”, “Chisum”, “The War Wagon”, “In Harm’s Device”, “McLintock!”, “Hatari!”, and others. Cabot is probably most renowned for rescuing Fay Wray from King Kong. Also on hand is The DUKE’s son, Patrick Wayne. Patrick appears as the commander of a Seabee team, following in his father’s footsteps (DUKE starred in the well-known homage to the outfit, “The Fighting Seabees”) .

DUKE fans should try to locate a copy of the video “No Substitute For Victory” (available on this station), in which DUKE hosts a right-wing documentary seek at our reasons for fighting in Southeast Asia. Watching this documentary after the film will give the viewer fresh insights into the thinking of the hawks at the time, and their location during the Vietnam conflict.

If you ever read Gustav Hasford’s “The Short-Timers” (which “Fleshy Metal Jacket” was based on) you know how he felt about this movie: “Let’s study the Duke and Mr. Sulu karate-chop Victor Charlie in a Kodicolor fantasy about Vietnam.” In other words, he plan it was bunk. So does everyone else on the left, who have bought into the account that Vietnam was a purely guerilla war and that the human-wave assaults employed by the NVA/VC on Col. Kirby’s camp in the film would never have happened in accurate life. In point of fact almost 90% of the fighting in Vietnam was of the traditional type in the Central Highlands or the valleys (”We Were Soldiers”) while only 10% of the troops were employed in the rice paddies you inspect in movies like “Platoon.” Whenever the NVA fought out in the launch, a la the Tet Offensive, they were well and truly beaten, but their leadership was ruthless and understood that by trading 5 Vietnamese lives for one American, the U.S. will to fight would eventually crash. They knew the American public had only tepid encourage for Vietnam and would not pick up the losses. The result, of course, we all know. Hanoi Jane what she wanted and so did Uncle Ho. Too poor Jane didn’t go wait on in say, 1975 and consume some time in a re-education camp. They could have taken pics of her in a tiger cage, eating bugs and rotting from typhus.

If you are reading this you probably know the yarn of the movie.

John Wayne’s Col. Kirby and his elite Special Forces “A” Team (no, not the one with Hannibal and Face and B.A. Barracus) is sent to Vietnam to save unfavorable camps which offer protection to the local farmers from the murderous Viet Cong (whose crimes against their absorb people are well documented here) . The soldiers yell the locals how to fight while providing basic medical care and 20th century improvements to their primeval design of life. There is the usual broad John Wayne type battle as the VC try to overrun the camp, followed by a commando raid deep into enemy territory, and a tragic-heroic ending. But the movie is more than the sum of its parts. It is not mere entertainment, it is personal propiganda, designed to display the Duke’s argument for why America was fighting in Vietnam at all. The only failing is its sappiness and jingoism, which originate it easy for opponents to ridicule. But making fun of it doesn’t consume away the fact that the Duke’s argument was based on something he is rarely credited for — human decency. What “correct” did we have in Vietnam? I guess the same “proper” we had to land on the beaches of Normandy. We had no “accurate” at all — it was unbiased the “true thing to do”, to abet a dreadful government (South Vietnam) against a remarkable worse government (North Vietnam) that primitive methods like mass killings of teachers, civil servants, nuns, missionaries, and village chiefs to destabilze the South and forcibly unite the country. You can argue about the legitimacy of taking sides in a civil war all day, but any country that uses methods like burying people alive and raping women to death as a matter of military policy probably deserves to be opposed, yes?

Anyway, let me seize a moment to say I Like THIS FREAKIN’ MOVIE. Growing up, obedient customary Washington D.C. Channel 20 (remember when you only had ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS and your one local channel? Channel 20 was ours) played this movie, (along with “The Battle of the Bulge” and “The Bridge at Remagen” and some other classics) about once every other day. Even the understanding of it brings a smile to my face. Here was a guy, John Wayne, who had the guts to perform a film this flag-shakingly fair hover at a time when patriotism was growing unfashionable and millions of people were abandoning and spitting on the ideals that he embodied — which, by the intention, a few of us tranquil acquire accurate. As a movie, “The Green Berets” has a hard ideology of anti-communism and shows the newfangled Special Forces as a sort of elite brotherhood consecrated to fight against it. I contemplate a lot of the dislike directed against this movie comes from the surity of Kirby’s (meaning John Wayne’s) beliefs. They are rock-solid and not up for debate or negotiation. He understands what will (and did) happen to Vietnam if the North wins the war, and fights bitterly to prevent this from happening, while simultaneously trying to obtain over a stubborn journalist who has legitimate doubts about our involvement. No ask, this movie is jingoistic and predictable, a Vietnam war movie packed in WWII casing, but who cares?

This is the final volume of the Lucky Star OVA containing episodes 21-24. Since the usual TV season in Japan is 13 episodes, the termination of the explain at episode 24 instead of 26 is unusual. The four episodes on the disk are a outlandish variety - two are the typical “lop of life” episodes with small set aside from the joke of the scene. Two of the episodes disclose a bit of a myth, with Konata asking her father about her listless mother and also about his lolita complex which terminates with a visitation by the spirit of Konata’s mom. The other deals obliquely with the older girl’s pending graduation. And I will be unprejudiced, I was expecting the anime to be similar to other “prick of high school life” anime shows like Azimanga Diaoh with a touching final episode, or a heart rending final episode like the Kimagare Orange Road OVAs where one girl is chosen, the other dumped and she tries to go on with life and cover the fact fair how worthy the betrayal is hurting her. But as the final episode started winding down, and our girls were detached planning their final school festival, with college exams and graduation detached a month or so away, I began to distress that the series might leave me hanging in the air. And certain enough, the final scene left all the significant questions unanswered and left me feeling dissastisfied. I had to notion the final scene a second time and sit down and judge about why the directors would chose to raze the series at that point, rather than showing us what would happen to the girls after graduation. I belief about my possess graduation, so many years ago, and how few of us really knew what we wanted to do with our lives, even those in my class who had college lined up. And how unprepared for what the world had in store for us. In the extinguish, I absorb the message the director and writers meant for us to derive from the ending was that a colorful, unknown future awaited the girls, and so long as they had each other’s back and friendship, there was nothing to awe. Either I am painfully plain, however, or the message was too subtle for me to remove up at first viewing. At the beginning of this series, I did not quite like “Lucky Star” but the stories and characters grew on me to the point where now, at the kill, I wanted to know what fate held in store for Konata and friends. The fact that I was denied such closure left me feeling poor, though it also leaves the producers free to do a second series or specials if they so desire. The fact that Lucky Star didn’t sell well enough that the Special Edition of vol. 6 was cancelled leads me to own that there will probably be no more Lucky Star, which is a bit of a shame. Reaching the slay of Lucky Star was like coming to the last fraction of the best box of chocolates you ever ate, wanting more, and finding out that the candy company went out of business. The demolish of Azamanga Diaoh left me choked up, fondly remembering my have high school days. The kill of Lucky Star did not give distinguished such deep emotional ties to the legend and characters, instead I was left thinking “Oh, nuts, it can’t fair raze here!”

This volume ended the series rather abruptly in a “its not over, yet” kind of blueprint because the Manga is peaceful being made and all 26 episodes were graceful noteworthy derived from 4 volumes of Manga (smooth ongoing) . so there will prolly be another season in like 2-3 years, in fact an OAV was already created and licensed.

anyways, this volume holds up to the prior volumes in its comedy and originality. its well worth the win and will most likely shine as an anime classic that others will fail to recreate.

-the only spot i had with this volume is that the remark actress for Konata changed her bid slightly and added scheme too roughness in device too many lines instead of doing the cutesy type mumble and it kinda messed up the experience a litte.

-Other than that this volume ruled

The People That Time Forgot (1977) : Tyler’s message in a bottle is found off of the glide of Scotland at the extinguish of 1917. A year later, an expedition is formed to secure Tyler and the island of Caprona. The expedition includes Tyler’s boyhood friend Maj. Ben McBride (Patrick Wayne), Lady Charlotte Cunningham (Sarah Douglas), Dr. Edwin Norfolk (Thorley Walters), and pilot Hogan (Shane Rimmer) . They remove a ship to the island, then sail a plane to come by inside it. The plane is attacked by a Pterodactyl and crashes. Hogan stays with the plane to fix it. The other three choose to go off and glimpse. The explorers eye many of the dinosaurs that Tyler described in his letter. They eventually advance across a cavegirl named Ajor (Dana Gillespie) . Ajor speaks English and tells them that Tyler taught her how to articulate it. She also says that Tyler was taken prisoner by a group of mutants. The four travelers then spot out to score him, with hopes that he is collected alive.

COMMENTS: These two films are based on a trilogy of books by Edgar Rice Burroughs, the creator of Tarzan. The storyline is awfully similar to Arthur Conan Doyle’s “The Lost World.” Both films were directed by Kevin Connor and featured Doug McClure as Bowen Tyler. The special effects are ridiculous by today’s standards, but the stories are ravishing cold. Witness out for a cameo appearance of David Prowse (Darth Vader himself) as the executioner in the second film. These films are gargantuan for anyone enthusiastic in dinosaur or adventure films. Kevin Connor also directed another Burroughs adaptation called “At The Earth’s Core” (1976), the first chronicle of the Pelucidar series. It was released between the other two films and also featured Doug McClure in the starring role. Many people mistake this film for being another sequel, but it is unrelated to the other two films.

This is a spacious double-feature Drive-In magnificent. The monsters are hokey, but this is composed stout family type fun. They were done on a shoestring so what do you inquire? Based on Edgar Rice Burroughs modern The Land People Forgot has sort of a Lost World premise. Americans and Brits are travelling to South America when they are torpedoed by a German U-Boat. Later the survivors manage to pick up up and overtake the submarine. They waste up finding a lost continent, before you can say “Is Barney Purple” there are monsters trying to build lunch out of our explorers. Instead, they form Barney Burgers. Then they earn T-Tex, cavemen and all sorts of adventures. However, Doug McClure (Travis of The Virginian) and Susan Penhaligon are left slack in the final brouhaha, which leaves the opening for the second movie. The People Time Forgot.

Patrick Wayne and Sarah Douglas star in the second film. It has the feel of the second Planet of the Apes where they advance to catch what happened to Chuck-baby.
