br A disappointing second effort by writer/director/actor Eric Schaeffer, whose small first film, iMy Life’s in Turnaround/i, showed great promise. This romantic comedy tries much, much too hard and feels more like a freshman production than a sophomore endeavor. The plot is all fluff and the dialogu is not only meaningless but often embarrassingly crude. Schaeffer and Sarah Jessica Parker have their moments as platonic roommates trying to find tru love before their 30th birthdays. She suggests that if they do not find their soul mates within a month, they leap from the Brooklyn Bridge. Lots of scrambling for the perfect mate ensus, with much predictability. The terms Custom Home Builder, Spec Home Builder and Tract Home Builder sometimes can be used interchangeably.   However, this is not always the case as each one has different functions therefore constructing different types of residential structures.. 

Custom Home Builder

These build unique homes.   The architectural style, size and amenities will conform to the buyers needs and wishes.  Generally, the homeowner or home builder decide on variables that will make it different from others.  Usually, lot’s of planning and time are involved and many revisions until the “perfect” design is achieved.

It might be small, medium or large in size.  Perhaps has standard features or high end luxury features.  They are not always elaborate gorgeous large palatial estates.  While that is often the case it is not always.

For example, a retired couple may want a custom home built that is only 1500 square feet and has 2 bedrooms with and 2 bathrooms.  The floor plan might be a U in shape with the kitchen on one end, living room in the middle and 2 bedrooms on the other end.  The garage will not be attached.  The wood trim package will be a stain grade brazilian hardwood and the wood floors will be the same.   So, a large estate or small estate could both be unique.

Spec Home Builders

These are built to be sold.  The builder speculates that he will make money from this transaction of buying a lot and building  on it. It may be sold during construction but the idea is a builder buys a parcel of land and builds a custom or semi-custom home on the lot and than sells it.  Spec homes are not always large & spacious.  They could just as well be medium sized with average features.

The builder decides the floor plan rather than the home buyer since it is not sold yet.  In a sense it is a custom home since it is not a standard run of the mill house in a tract subdivision.    However, it could be  very plain or it might be a high end decorated estate.  Either way it would be thought of as a Spec Home.

Tract Home Builders

Usually referred to as “subdivisions”.    Tract homes  are built by  developers who own a large piece (tract) of land that is divided into many smaller lots upon which to build homes.  The land is often warehoused until the economy is favorable to new subdivisions.  The developer has model homes chosen which the customers can choose from.  For example they may have offer 4 floor plans of various sizes and shapes and will put 25 of each model on the 100 lots of this subdivision.

Once the models are built the builder begins selling them.  They usually have an open home and several model homes for the prospective buyers  to walk thru which are tastefully decorated  to give the buyers an idea of how nice their new home could look all furnished.  Usually the subdivision is built in phases and once the 1st phase is nearing completion and all sold out than a next phase will begin according to demand.  They  are generally sold by real estate agents and real estate brokers.  The model homes are usually staffed by a licensed real estate agent.

It’s our loss, for this mix of goofy slapstick and jaw-dropping action is his most impressive film since IDrunken Master II/I. Playing a special forces agent (named, naturally, Jackie) struck with amnesia and adopted by an African bush tribe following a failed assassination attempt, he embarks on a qust to discover his tru identity while armies of killers pour after him. After an explosive opening, the story gets momentarily bogged down in the kind of mugging humor that leaves most American audiences scratching their heads, but once Jackie kicks into gear the film is a high-speed action flurry that culminates in a furious battle atop a Rotterdam skyscraper. Jackie is at his most charmingly naive (he berates the villains, pleading “Why do you want to destroy when you can make things better?”) and athletically impressive: the marvelous stunts–including a flight down the side of the skyscraper–and fight choreography make IRush Hour/I look like a Sunday drive. br Inspired by the 1960s TV series that starred James Garner in the title role, this lightweight Western from 1994 proved to be a surprising box-office hit. Well, maybe not such a big surprise, since it’s from the star and director of the ILethal Weapon/I movies, and operates with a similar combination of mainstream plotting and easygoing humor. Mel Gibson stars as card-playing gunslinger Brett Maverick, who meets up with wily gambler Annabelle Bransford (Jodie Foster) and a marshal named Zane Cooper (James Garner, trading his old role to Gibson) on his way to the World Series of poker in St. Louis. Maverick’s trying to raise the $5,000 needed to join the high-stakes contest, but that’s easier said than done du to a lot of unscrupulous competition and a twisting plot of tricks and deceptions. It’s all played for laughs and action, so the movie never wears out its welcome, despite a running time that could’ve used a good trimming. It’s also fun to see the rapport between Gibson and Garner, as if the present and former Mavericks were a kind of surrogate son and father, bonded by their mutual skill in charming and conning their way through tight spots. Director Richard Donner also pays tribute to old Westerns by casting veterans of the genre in cameo roles (including Bert Remsen, Dub Taylor, and Denver Pyle), and Gibson’s ILethal Weapon/I costar Danny Glover pops in for a surprise appearance. None of this really adds up to much since the movie makes no pretense about taking itself seriously, but that’s precisely why audiences found it so entertaining. I–Jeff Shannon/I

br When graphic novelist Aiden (Hugh Dancy) travels to Bucharest to research the loup garou legend, he nearly gets devoured in the latest female werewolf film, IBlood and Chocolate/I. In the tradition of IWerewolf Woman/I and IGinger Snaps, Blood and Chocolate/I stars Vivian Gandillon (Agnes Bruckner), a girl who’s forced to face her lupine tendencies in order to discover how capable of loving Aiden she really is. Based on a book by Annette Curtis Clause, the film chronicles the lives of the remaining loup garou who are an extended Romanian family waiting for their pack leader, Gabriel, to select his new mate. His desire for Vivian means trouble when her wish to be with Aiden results in her revealing too much about the clan’s secretive lifestyle. In this film, werewolves look fully human until their eyes glow with colored contact lenses while they fly through the air to then land as full-fledged wolves. Gone are the days, apparently, of films showing the transformation in all its hairy, explosive detail. A lack of scenes describing the werewolf metamorphosis make this film more a love story than a monster tale, though two forest gatherings in which the loup garou hunt human sacrifices offer some grizzly satisfaction. Unlike the aforementioned femme werewolf films, IBlood and Chocolate/I features a girl fighting her urge to kill in a bid to unite humans with her brethren, making this movie the most peaceful in its genre.
